District Track Meet

District meet was this past Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Rebekah did pretty good she placed 6th on poll vault. She cleared 8.5 feet, but due to a mix up skipped the 9 foot mark and went back in at 9.5 feet which she couldn't make. Video clearning 8.5 feet. (The winner was one of Rebekah's team mates who cleared 10 feet, new school record.)

On the 100M Hurdles, she ends up placing 5th over all to make the final eight runners on Wednesday. She improved her time, which is really all that matters. So she made the final eight, and of course, dumb me, accidently hit record at some point up in the stands. You can here people talking for about 20 mins of blacked out video....so needless to say, I didn't have any memory left on my stick to video tape the finals. Again she improved her speed, but placed 6th overall in the district. Here she is on the preliminary hurdles on Tuesday.

She also ran the 400M on Tuesda, but didn't do as well as she had hoped. At least she seemed to be able to breath all the way through the race, which was a first this season.

All in all this was a good year after her surgery. She will have plenty to work on this summer to get back to full speed, but she is getting there!

Wide Open Sky Band

Last night we headed out to support Wide Open Sky who performed at Rock City Icehouse in Austin. Nephew, Shawn, is the drummer. The band was celebrating finishing their c.d.

The whole gang was going....Liz & Les, Ashley & Alex, and Terry & myself. I had checked the website and it showed they hit the stage at 10 p.m. So we (I) thought we will get there around 9:30, sit around with a drink and visit a bite before the band went on stage. I must have been CRAZY! I was reminded that I'm just too OLD and not WITH IT. Ashley laughed so hard that we were there SO EARLY!

Remember, we do live in the city famous for keeping it weird. There were a few other people there "early", mostly biker looking guys and really old guys who may have even been homeless. Some older lady (who Ashley noticed was wearing Jack Daniels perfume) had her birthday cake leftovers sitting on the lone long table we were hanging around at. She was so sweet to let us know we could have a bite and then proceeded to tell us way to much about what she wanted for her birthday....something about a fireman or something. 20 mins. was all the people watching we could stand.

Shawn saw us and let us know that two bands were ahead of theirs and they wouldn't be playing until midnight. (Terry and Les had to work the next morning, so you would have thought they were going to turn into pumpkins or something at midnight.) Anyway we headed across the street to grab a bite to eat and waste some time, which you should never do at 10:30 at night. The waiter at Papasitos was so SLOW. I think Alex said it best that when we finally ordered our food and the waiter said it would be right out, Alex made the comment that we did need it today. We finally got the check and were out by midnight.

With simi-full bellys we headed back to the icehouse to watch a great performance. Here are a few clips of the headliner band, Wide Open Sky, "featuring" Shawn as the drummer. Enjoy!

Here is one more song.

Texas Relay Results

Beka competed at the Texas Relay's on Friday. She had been sick most of the week and it was cold (for Texas) and very windy. So all in all she did really good. She completed the 100M Hurdles in 17 seconds flat. That placed her 16th over all, so she didn't qualify for the top 9 for finals today.

It was amazing to watch the college level compete. Terry and I watched long jump as we waited for high school level to begin. WOW!

Hopefully this will show you how she did. Name on the "Big Screen."

Ashley Leaves For Boot Camp

Okay - Ashley complained that I don't have anything about her on my blog.

Ashley will be off to boot camp June 2nd and the days are going to go by way too fast. She realizes she only has a little over eight weeks to get stuff organized before she leaves....and coming from a family of wait to the very last minuters....she will be pushing it to be ready.

I'm going to have to get her to write up some more information that can be shared with everyone because I really can't remember all the details there are concerning her Navy commitments, but as a mom all I know is that she will be gone for an eternity.

Ashley is a long-term substitute at the same middle school Nolan attends. She works with students in the functional life skills class which is part of special education. The teachers seem to love her and wish she were staying next year. I think the teachers and students plan to be her mail pals next year....sending care packages and such to Ashley whereever she is stationed.

I think back to when she was little and wanted to do everything herself and how strong willed she was about EVERYTHING. (I believe that it drove me crazy at the time) But because of all she was I can say that I have been very blessed to have such a strong, independent and spirited daughter. I know she can do all she sets her mind to do. I'm so proud of her!

I've added a link to her photography website if you are interested in seeing her stuff.
