Ashley Back In The States

We just got back from a crazy quick weekend to San Diego for the USS Nimitz Homecoming. It was a wonderful experience to say the least.

Nolan & Beka had flown up to Seattle last Monday to go on the "Tiger Cruise" with Ashley. It was a once in a lifetime chance to see the day to day workings of the Nimitz for four days.

Terry, Matt & I drove out on Wednesday & Thursday. Thursday night we attended a 40's themed Pre-Homecoming party on the USS Midway. It was a chance to get all the details for the Nimitz arrival on Friday.

The weather on Friday was wonderful. We and about 10,000 other family members excitedly waited for the arrival. Of course where we were located it was hard to actually see the Nimitz until it was on top of us, but you could hear people shouting and honking of horns around the bay, so you knew they were near. I was prepared for the size of the Nimitz....it was amazing. The "Manning of the Rails" brought a few tears as well. Trying to find Ashley standing among the other 3000 sailors was like trying to find a needle in the haystack...thank goodness for cell phones.

Ashley loved using a real potty and sleeping in a comfy bed!! Showered for as long as she wanted to. I think she enjoyed everything about being around Americans again. Hopefully she will update her own blog to share her thoughts.

Ashley, Nolan and Beka are directly to the left of the circle thing...Beka has a yellowish shirt on. Looks like a sailor has his hand over Beka's head.

Ashley at one of her work stations. Funny look, cause I keep asking questions and she doesn't want to answer me any more.....

This is what happens if you stand in the way of the plane...no matter who you are!
